Investiture Ceremony for Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche as General Secretary (December 10, 2005)

On December 10, 2005, His Holiness Karmapa appointed Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche as the new General Secretary of the Tsurphu Labrang. The Karmapa announced the appointment at an investiture ceremony held at His Holiness’s temporary quarters in Gutyo Tantric University. The ceremony was attended by a number of eminent Rinpoches and representatives from Kagyu monasteries around the world. Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche was appointed for an initial term of one year.

Since the Seventeenth Gyalwa Karmapa arrived in India in January 2000, Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche has been at Gyuto Monastery serving the Karmapa as his primary attendant. Rinpoche also has substantial responsibilities for Dilyak Monastery in Boudhanath, Nepal and is an advisor to Nalandabodhi.

As directed by His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, the previous General Secretary Tenzin Namgyal passed away on June 8, 2005. Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche has been serving as acting General secretary since the late General Secretary Tenzin Namgyal appointed him upon realizing he would be hospitalized.
