Gyalwang Karmapa Gives White Tara Empowerment at Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School SUJA

July 17 to 19, 2009 – TCV, Suja

His Holiness Karmapa gave a White Tara Long life empowerment this morning (July 18th) at the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) School in Suja. Large assemblies of students, from TCV Suja, Gopalpur, Chauntara; people from the nearby Tibetan settlements of Bir and Chauntara; and monastic people, attended the long life empowerment. The TCV School in Suja had requested the empowerment.

His Holiness arrived at the school around 3:30pm yesterday (July 17). All the students and staff of the school offered a warm welcome for His Holiness’ three day visit.

TCV Suja School is a branch of TCV Dharamsala. Suja School is located near to the Tibetan Settlement of Bir, which is 62 Kilometers from Gyuto. The school was established for new arrivals from Tibet. There are approximately 1800 students currently studying at TCV Suja; their levels of education ranging from pre-school up to the 10th grade. Most of the students have only been in India for three years, since the time they left Tibet.

In conclusion to the empowerment, His Holiness gave a short talk to the students, and to the public, about education and the future of Tibet.

On July 19th, His Holiness visited each classroom during the morning session and, in some classes, stayed to observe some lessons for 1-2 minutes. His Holiness also visited all the foster homes and consecrated the new foster homes in the afternoon. During his visit at one of the homes, His Holiness even had a taste of the lunch that was being served to the students.

His Holiness has concluded his visit and has arrived back in Gyuto.
