This afternoon, several important masters came to visit the Gyalwang Karmapa at his residence in Gelephu, Bhutan. The first was His Eminence Kyabje Yongzin Ling Rinpoche. Though His Holiness and His Eminence have a long standing friendship, they have not seen each other in person for many years and were happy to renew their friendship.
His Holiness also received His Holiness Ganden Tripa Rinpoche, whom His Holiness remembers very fondly, having known him well since the time when they both resided at Gyuto Tantric Monastery in Dharamsala. His Holiness was happy that they could enjoy each other’s company again.
The Gyalwang Karmapa visited His Holiness Sakya Gongma Trichen Rinpoche and paid his respects to him. During the visit, the Gyalwang Karmapa made a request that Sakya Gongma Rinpoche give the Vajradhatu Mandala offering to Drung Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche so that the tradition of practicing and studying the kriya and carya tantra may be reestablished within the Karma Kamtsang.
The Gyalwang Karmapa also received visits from His Eminence Namkhai Nyingpo Rinpoche, H.E. Chogtrul Gyangkhang Rinpoche, Ven. Gyetrul Jigme Rinpoche, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche, Dungse Garab Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, and other rinpoches.
Late in the afternoon, His Holiness went to tour the 108 Stupas. He stopped in particular at the seventeenth stupa—one of the three he has sponsored. Marveling at the sight of of the long row of stupas, he remarked that it was like a protection circle guarding the Kingdom of Bhutan.
