His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa’s 25th Birthday Celebrations

June 26, 2009 – Gyuto, Dharamsala

The celebration began in the early morning. Drupon Rinpoche offered a Khata to His Holiness at the beginning of the prayer recitation.

Khen-Rinpoche, the head of Gyuto Ramoche Monastery, led the prayers and performed a Mandala offering to His Holiness, followed by a Tenshug offering.

The main shrine hall of Gyuto was crowded with huge numbers of international devotees. The devotees and many venerable rinpoches gathered for His Holiness’ birthday.

His Eminence Goshir Gyaltsab Rinpoche led the second session of the prayer ceremony, continuing the Mandala offering which was followed by a Tenshug offering. Many venerable Rinpoches, representatives of the Tibetan Government in Exile performed a Mandala offering and Tenshug. Mr. Gonpo Phuntsok, the Secretary of the Department of Religion and Culture, offerd His Holiness well wishes on behalf of the Kashag (the governing council of the Tibetan Government in exile).

Gyalwang Karmapa Inaugurates the 10th Religious Conference of Tibetan Buddhism

His Holiness inaugurated the 10th Religious Conference of Tibetan Buddhism at Thekchen Choling in Dharamsala. The heads of all the major Tibetan Buddhism sects including the Bon participated the conference.

The Religion and Cultural department of Tibetan Government in exile requested His Holiness to inaugurate and to lead the conference. Read more

HH Karmapa Greets HH Dalai Lama, October 20, 2008

Hundreds of Tibetans and well-wishers holding traditional ceremonial scarves and burning incense greeted His Holiness the Dalai Lama as he returned to his hometown.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama was received at the Gaggal Airport, which is an hour drive from McLeod Ganj, by The Gyalwang Karmapa and officials of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, and heads of major Tibetan non-governmental organizations.

Dalai Lama arrived from the Indian capital, where he successfully underwent a surgery to remove gall stones at a private hospital.

Q&A @ Tibet House and 2 Dharma Teachings

This morning, His Holiness Karmapa visited and engaged in a question-and-answer session at Tibet House, an organization devoted to preserving and promoting the precious art, culture, and wisdom of Tibet. Professor Robert A.F. Thurman, Tibet House’s President, introduced His Holiness, who then answered a wide range of questions about Buddhism, spirituality, and His Holiness’s own personal journey posed by Tibet House’s members and patrons.

His Holiness gave two public dharma teachings in the afternoon at the Waldorf-Astoria Ballroom in the Midtown area of Manhattan. The talks began on a delightful note, as a representative of Michael R. Bloomberg, Mayor of New York City, presented His Holiness with and read aloud a proclamation from the Mayor recognizing May 15-21, 2008 to be “His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang Karmapa Week” in New York City.
