Losar Day 3

March 7, 2011. Sarnath, Varanasi.

On the third day of Losar His Holiness Karmapa had lunch at the Ramada Hotel hosted by Vajra Vidhya Institue. Khenchen Yongzin Thrangu Rinpoche, Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche and the entourage of His Holiness were invited for the Lunch.

Later at evening His Holiness performed a special Guang Gong Puja in the evening outside in front of Vajra Vidya Monastery’s main shrine hall. Khenchen Yongzin Thrangu Rinpoche and Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche attended the prayers. The evening concluded with a burst of fireworks.

Gyalwang Karmapa Celebrates Losar at Vajra Vidya Institute

March 5, 2011. Sarnath, Varanasi.

New Year’s Day Morning

According to the Tibetan calendar this is now the Year of the Iron Rabbit.
The Gyalwang Karmapa celebrated Tibetan New Year in the company of his tutor, Khenchen Yongzin Thrangu Rinpoche, and Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche, who is currently visiting from the U.S.A.

Preceded by an incense bearer and monks playing the gyalin [Tibetan trumpet] His Holiness arrived in the main shrine room at Vajra Vidya Institute shortly before 7.00am, splendidly attired in gold brocade tonka and wearing traditional Tibetan white felt boots for the occasion. He mounted the throne, carefully donned his black-and-gold activity crown, and the ceremony to welcome in the new year began.

His Holiness the Karmapa Begins Winter Retreat in Bodh Gaya

Since February 26, His Holiness the Karmapa has been visiting Bodh Gaya, the place of Lord Buddha’s enlightenment and the holiest site for Buddhists worldwide. During his stay in Bodh Gaya, His Holiness is engaged in his winter meditation retreat at Tergar Monastery, a Tibetan Buddhist monastery founded by Yonge Mingyur Rinpoche.

While requesting that the press respect His Holiness’ privacy during his retreat and puja program in Bodh Gaya, Mingyur Rinpoche addressed a gathering of local press members. Mingyur Rinpoche is a world-renowned Buddhist teacher and author of the bestselling book, The Joy of Living.

His Holiness the Karmapa Cleared by Himachal Pradesh Government

11 February, 2011. Dharamsala

This afternoon, the Himachal Pradesh chief secretary Rajwant Sandhu told reporters that, “there is no involvement of the Karmapa. We have reasons to believe that some donations came for the monastery and the Karmapa has nothing to do with that. Monastery functionaries were managing the affairs.”

The chief secretary was also quoted as saying; “The Karmapa is a religious head and has followers across the world. We respect their religious activities. We don’t interfere in any religious affairs. We have full respect for their religious activities and are in no way intending curbing them in any form or manner as also we are aware of the fact that the Karmapa is not involved in any monetary activities or shady benami land deals.”

Member of Italian Foreign Affairs Committee Expresses Solidarity & Office Denies Baseless Claim that China SIM Cards Found

The Karmapa Office of Administration gratefully acknowledges the overwhelming support for His Holiness the Karmapa from well-wishers all across India and from around the world. Today, Matteo Mecacci, a member of the Italian Parliament, paid a personal visit to His Holiness the Karmapa at his residence in Dharamsala. While expressing faith and respect for the Indian judicial process, the Italian MP—who serves on the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Italian Chamber of Deputies—also expressed his solidarity with His Holiness the Karmapa during this trying period. He requested spiritual solidarity in return from His Holiness.
