Request to Devotees for Photographs of His Holiness Karmapa, in Particular the 16th Karmapa

This year marks the 900th year since the birth of the First Karmapa Düsum Khyenpa (1110-1193), who founded the lineage of Kagyu in 1139 C.E.

It is said:

Those who observe the anniversary
Of the passing of their lamas and venerate them,
Will soon be born among their first circle
Of disciples, and become a guide for beings.

Monasteries and dharma centers of the Karma Kagyu, the lineage of practice, are collaborating to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the birth, in Tresho, Kham, of the First Karmapa Düsum Khyenpa, the glorious crown jewel of the practice lineage.

As part of the 900th year celebration, His Holiness Karmapa’s Office of Administration (Tsurphu Labrang) is collecting photographs of His Holiness Karmapa, in particular the 16th Karmapa.

His Holiness Karmapa Celebrates His 26th Birthday

June 26, 2010 – Gyuto

His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa celebrated his 26th birthday (according to Tibetan Lunar Calendar).

Tibetans and Buddhist followers living in Dharamsala celebrated the birthday of His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa. Thousands of international devotees chanted hymns, praying for peace and harmony, while performing with traditional ritual instruments. His Holiness gave a birthday address in Tibetan, English, Chinese and Korean languages. In his brief speech to the gathering, His Holiness thanked fellow Tibetans and well-wishers around the world for their birthday greetings and for holding honorary celebrations.

Dignitaries including Tibetan government officials, parliament members and heads of NGOs, monasteries, nunneries and institutions conveyed greetings to His Holiness. Earlier in the day, the programme had begun with the offering of Mandalas to His Holiness, led by the Gyuto Khen-Rinpoche. Buddhist followers also offered prayers, wishing well-being and a long life to His Holiness. Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts group sang a song composed by His Holiness on his birthday.

Gyalwang Karmapa Participates in Pujas for Dalai Lama’s Long Life, and for Victims of Qinghai Earthquake. Also, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Shechen Rabjang Rinpoche Visit Karmapa

April 27, 2010 – Gyuto, Dharamsala

Today, during the first session of puja, Tibetans in Dharamsala and Jonang Monastery from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, offered Long Life prayers to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in order to observe the 50th anniversary of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s arrival to Dharamsala in 1960 from Mussoorie. The prayer was led, performed, and sponsored by Gyalwa Jonangpa. His Holiness Karmapa, monks, and the community of Dharamsala also participated in the puja.

The second session of puja was led and performed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama with the presence of His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa, dignitaries of Central Tibetan Administration, staffs, monks, nuns, lay people and many foreign sympathisers. The prayer began at 1 p.m. and lasted for two hours. The puja was a special prayer for Kyigudo Quake victims. Many lamas and members of the public participated in the puja, amounting to an assembly in the thousands.

Following the pujas, Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and Shechen Rabjang Rinpoche paid His Holiness Karmapa a visit at his Gyuto residence.
