His Holiness the Karmapa Cleared by Himachal Pradesh Government

11 February, 2011. Dharamsala

This afternoon, the Himachal Pradesh chief secretary Rajwant Sandhu told reporters that, “there is no involvement of the Karmapa. We have reasons to believe that some donations came for the monastery and the Karmapa has nothing to do with that. Monastery functionaries were managing the affairs.”

The chief secretary was also quoted as saying; “The Karmapa is a religious head and has followers across the world. We respect their religious activities. We don’t interfere in any religious affairs. We have full respect for their religious activities and are in no way intending curbing them in any form or manner as also we are aware of the fact that the Karmapa is not involved in any monetary activities or shady benami land deals.”

Statement from Karmapa Office of Administration

6 February, 2011. Dharamsala

The Karmapa Office of Administration welcomes the Central Government’s expression of confidence in His Holiness the Karmapa. Union Minister Virbhadra Singh travelled to the state from Delhi and made several clear statements of support for His Holiness the Karmapa and the Tibetan community as a whole. Addressing a press conference, Union Minister Singh charged the Himachal Pradesh state government with maligning His Holiness the Karmapa. He further urged regularizing land purchase rules to grant Tibetans certain rights to own land in Himachal Pradesh, in which Dharamsala is located. Union Minister Singh is a member of the Cabinet of the Indian Government and a five-time former chief minister of the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Karmapa Participates in “Thank you Himachal Pradesh Day”

April 30, 2010: 9:00AM – Dari, Dharamsala

A “Thank You Himachal Pradesh Day” was observed today at Dari, near Dharamshala, to mark the 50th anniversary of residence of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, in particular; and the Tibetan community, in general, in Himachal Pradesh. The ceremony was led by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and in attendance were: His Holiness the Karmapa; Kalon Tripa; two speakers of the Tibetan Exile Government; and many Indian and Tibetan dignitaries. Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, the honourable Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, graced this special occasion on behalf of the State Government of Himachal Pradesh. His Holiness the Dalai Lama thanked profusely the Government and the people of Himachal Pradesh for their kindness and generosity shown to him and to the Tibetan people all these years.

Following the ceremony, His Holiness the Karmapa commented that India’s kindness to the Tibetan people demonstrates their commitment to Dharma, which is why all Dharma continues to flourish here.

Commemorating 50 Years of Exile

March 31, 2009 – Dharamsala

Tibetans celebrated an official function in Dharamsala, to mark the occasion called “Thank you India”.

The functions are part of a series of events being organized by Tibetan exiles to commemorate their 50 year’s in exile and to reaffirm commitment in their struggle for freedom.

In Dharamsala, the function showcasing Tibetan cultural songs and dances by school children was attended by senior officials from the Tibet’s government-in exile and representatives from the Indian community.

At the request of Tibetan Welfare Office, His Holiness Karmapa chaired the function and presented souvenir to the Chief Guest of the event Mr Kishan Kapoor, transport minister, the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

HH Karmapa Airlifted Out of Ladakh – September 21, 2008

His Holiness Karmapa and his aides which includes his sister and the General Secretary Drupon Rinpoche were airlifted by an army helicopter from Bara-lacha Pass to Leh in Ladakh after he was stranded on the Bara-lacha pass for the last two days due to heavy snowfall. (Ladakh Gonpa Association, Ladhak Buddhist Association and Mr.Tsering Dorji organised the airlift).

His Holiness was on his way to complete his next leg of Dharma tour in Lahual spiti and Kinnaur region of Himachal Pradesh.

“His Holiness and his followers are fine and in good health, and will spend two more days in Leh in Ladakh” said Drupon Rinpoche General Secretary to His Holiness.
