His Holiness Dalai Lama Meets His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa In Sarnath (November-December 2006)

On December 17, 2006, His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived at Sarnath airport Sunday noon to give religious teachings beginning 19th December at the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) in Sarnath. His Holiness the Gyalwa  Karmapa  received him at the airport.

His Holiness Dalai Lama, accompanied by His Holiness Karmapa, arrived at Vajra Vidya Institute, where Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche offered a mandala to His Holiness Dalai Lama. After finishing their prayers, His Holiness had lunch at Vajra Vidya Institute with His Holiness Karmapa ,Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche and Tenga Rinpoche.

HH Gyalwa Karmapa At Annual Teachings by HH Dalai Lama and Shoton Festival (March-April 2006)

His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa attended the Shoton Festival of Tibetan Opera in Dharamsala in April, an annual celbration of this important and vibrant Tibetan tradition. His Holiness the Dalai Lama was also in attendance.

His Holiness Karmapa also attended the Dalai Lama’s annual public teachings in Dharamsala from March 15-29, 2006. The Dalai Lama taught on Shantideva’s Compendium of Precepts, which is a compilation of the central Mahayana teachings on morality, vows and precepts. HH Dalai Lama also taught from A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life and Milarepa’s Songs of Realization. Read the rest of this article

New Year’s Celebration with His Holiness (January 1, 2006)

 

On New Year’s Day 2006, His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa conducted a refuge ceremony, giving refuge vows to the all the disciples gathered at Vajra Vidhya in Sarnath for the teaching. His Holiness also offered a very special New Year’s present to the gathering of sangha and lay devotees: a new composition of a Supplication and Offering to the Guru presented to each disciple after the teaching. His Holiness himself designed the booklets on the computer, and signed each printed booklet containing the supplication.

To further commemorate the occassion, the Tsurphu Labrang offered a ceremonial rice & tea to entire students as a New Year celebration. His Holiness hosted a New Year’s luncheon with Ven. Hai Tao and two other mahayana masters, along with HE Gyaltsab Rinpoche, Ven. KhenchenTrangu Rinpoche and Bo Khangkar Rinpoche.

His Holiness’s presence at Vajra Vidhya Institute in Sarnath, the site where Lord Buddha Sakyamuni first started teaching the Buddhadharma, is part of his 2005 – 2006 Winter tour (click here for schedule). Read the rest of this article

His Holiness Karmapa’s 20th Birthday Celebration (June 26, 2005)

HH Karmapa plays liturgical music during consecration ceremonies in June of 2005

On June 26, 2005, His Holiness became 20 years of age (21 years according to the Tibetan counting system). The program for His Holiness’s birthday commenced at 5:30am with a ceremony at Gyuto in which monks offered long life prayers for His Holiness. Afterwards, a song and prayer were offered by disciples of the Karmapa from Taiwan. Events continued throughout the day.

Earlier in the month, on June 20th, His Holiness the Gyalwa Karmapa consecrated the new Tinkar Chodey Institute in Gopalpur, near Dharamsala, being constructed by Khenpo Rinchen Dhondrup. The Karmapa visited and blessed the construction which is currently underway. Read the rest of this article
