HH Karmapa Greets HH Dalai Lama, October 20, 2008

Hundreds of Tibetans and well-wishers holding traditional ceremonial scarves and burning incense greeted His Holiness the Dalai Lama as he returned to his hometown.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama was received at the Gaggal Airport, which is an hour drive from McLeod Ganj, by The Gyalwang Karmapa and officials of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, and heads of major Tibetan non-governmental organizations.

Dalai Lama arrived from the Indian capital, where he successfully underwent a surgery to remove gall stones at a private hospital.

Welcoming dinner reception

The Tsurphu Labrang (Karmapa’s office of Administration) joined by all Kagyu Monasteries from India and Nepal offered a welcome dinner reception in the honor of His Holiness at the Radisson Hotel. The large reception included many prominent people:

Previous Announcements

The Karmapa’s Office of Administration joyfully announces that His Holiness the Seventeenth Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, will visit the United States from May 15 through June 2, 2008. In late February, we received confirmation from the Government of India via Mr. Tempa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New Delhi and Cabinet Minister of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, and Mr. Tashi Wangdi, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to the Americas. The formal announcement is linked here.Click on the image to the right to go to the announcement of His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa’s preliminary travel schedule in the United States, which has been released by the Karmapa’s Office of Administration, United States. This schedule is being provided for travel and vacation day planning. Since confirmation of the trip was only recently received, the schedule currently being made available is necessarily preliminary and subject to change. The final confirmed schedule will be posted by our office as soon as as possible.

His Holiness Dalai Lama’s Birthday and Visit to TCV

6 July 2007: On the auspicious day of the 6th of July, His Holiness Karmapa visited His Holiness Dalai Lama’s palace early in the morning to offer his respects and good wishes for the celebration of the Dalai Lama’s 72nd birthday (Western calendar). HH Dalai Lama presided over the joyous celebration in the courtyard of the Tsuglagkhang (Main Temple), attended by top officials of the Tibetan government in Exile, including Kalon Tripa Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche (Prime Minister), Chairman Karma Choephel (Deputy Speaker), Gyari Dolma (Supreme Justice Commission and Justice Commission). Other Kalons of the Central Tibetan Administration and Kyabje Trulshik Rinpoche were present during the morning function.

Fifteen traditional Tibetan songs and dance items were presented by various institutions, including rare performances by schools from the remote and faraway areas of Spiti and Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. HH Dalai Lama’s Teachings to Tibetan Youth (June 1-3)

His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa listens to His Holiness Dalai Lama at the latter’s special lectures for Tibetan youth

His Holiness Gyalwang Karmapa attended the special lecture on the essence of Buddhism, given to Tibetan youth by His Holiness the Dalai Lama. His Holiness explained the key aspects of Tibetan Buddhism to Tibetan high school and college students, with great emphasis on the benefits of studying Buddhism. Highlighting the need for the study of Buddhism, His Holiness advised that a deeper and fuller understanding of Buddhism enables one to become what His Holiness calls a “Buddhist of the 21st century: “Complimenting faith with knowledge and reason, one understands why Buddhism is a philosophy, a religion, a science, to transform the mind.”
