HH Karmapa Leads Tibetan Community in New Delhi in Prayers After Delhi Bombing and J&K Earthquake (December 12, 2005)

 

His Holiness is welcomed at the Majnukatilia Tibetan camp in Old Delhi with traditional musical intruments and decorations

On December 12, 2005, His Holiness Karmapa visited the Tibetan Settlement at Majnukatila in Delhi. At the request of the Tibetan Welfare Office, His Holiness performed special prayers in response to the recent bombing incident in Delhi and the October 8th earthquake which caused such destruction in Pakistan and the Indian side of Kashmir. His Holiness prayed for blessings for those who passed away, for comfort for the injured, and for the good fortune that similar natural and man-made calamities never occur again on this world, the home of sentient beings.

Schedule for HH Karmapa’s Winter Tour December 2005 – January 2006

His Holiness is presiding over this year’s Karma Gön Chö at Vajra Vidhya Institute in Varanasi in December with representatives of Kagyu monasteries from all over the world. HH Karmapa will subsequently proceed to Bodhgaya for this year’s Great Monlam Aspiration of the Glorious Unequaled Kagyu Sangha (Pal Nyammay Kagyupay Sangha Monlam Chenmo).

  • December 11 – To Delhi
  • December 12 – Chenrezig transmission at Majnu Ka Tila Tibetan Settlement
  • December 13 – To Varanasi for Karma Gön Chö
  • January 5 – To Bodhgaya for Great Kagyu Monlam
  • January 17 – To Varanasi for short retreat at Vajra Vidhya
  • February 3 – return to temporary camp at Gyuto Tantric University

Investiture Ceremony for Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche as General Secretary (December 10, 2005)

 

On December 10, 2005, His Holiness Karmapa appointed Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche as the new General Secretary of the Tsurphu Labrang. The Karmapa announced the appointment at an investiture ceremony held at His Holiness’s temporary quarters in Gutyo Tantric University. The ceremony was attended by a number of eminent Rinpoches and representatives from Kagyu monasteries around the world. Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche was appointed for an initial term of one year.

Since the Seventeenth Gyalwa Karmapa arrived in India in January 2000, Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche has been at Gyuto Monastery serving the Karmapa as his primary attendant. Rinpoche also has substantial responsibilities for Dilyak Monastery in Boudhanath, Nepal and is an advisor to Nalandabodhi.

As directed by His Holiness the Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, the previous General Secretary Tenzin Namgyal passed away on June 8, 2005. Ven. Dilyak Drupon Rinpoche has been serving as acting General secretary since the late General Secretary Tenzin Namgyal appointed him upon realizing he would be hospitalized.
